Product Overview

KPV (Lys-Pro-Val) is the C-terminal tripeptide of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH) that retains the cytokine-inhibiting anti-inflammatory activity of the parent hormone while being devoid of its melanotropic effects. Unlike full-length α-MSH, KPV does not activate cell-surface melanocortin receptors — instead, it enters cells through a specific receptor-independent uptake mechanism and acts intracellularly.

Once internalized, KPV inhibits NF-κB activation, downregulating the transcription of pro-inflammatory genes including TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6, and IL-8. This intracellular anti-inflammatory mechanism is distinct from receptor-mediated approaches and has been studied particularly in intestinal inflammation models (IBD, colitis, gut barrier dysfunction) and skin inflammation, where KPV demonstrates efficacy via topical and oral routes in addition to parenteral administration.

Research Applications

KPV has been examined in experimental studies related to:

  • Intracellular NF-κB pathway inhibition without melanocortin receptor activation
  • Intestinal inflammation, IBD, and colitis preclinical models
  • Pro-inflammatory cytokine (TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6) downregulation studies
  • Gut barrier integrity and epithelial healing research
  • Skin inflammation, wound healing, and dermatitis models
  • Oral and topical bioavailability of anti-inflammatory tripeptides

Handling and Storage (Laboratory Guidance)

This product is supplied as a lyophilized peptide powder.

Typical laboratory handling recommendations include:

  • Store at 2–8 °C upon receipt.
  • Protect from heat, moisture, and direct light.
  • Avoid excessive agitation of the solution to maintain peptide stability.
  • Reconstitution, if required for laboratory experiments, should be performed using appropriate sterile laboratory techniques.
  • Use of acetic acid water (0.6%) or sterile bacteriostatic water is recommended for peptides with low aqueous solubility.
