Innate repair receptor peptide — studied in neuroprotection and neuropathic pain.

Overview

ARA-290 is an 11-amino acid helix B surface peptide (HBSP) derived from the non-erythropoietic portion of erythropoietin (EPO). It is designed to selectively activate the Innate Repair Receptor (IRR) — a tissue-protective heteroreceptor complex consisting of the EPO receptor subunit (EPOR) and the common beta chain (CD131/βc) — without activating the homodimeric EPOR (EPOR2) complex responsible for erythropoiesis.

This receptor selectivity allows ARA-290 to deliver the cytoprotective, anti-inflammatory, and neuroregenerative benefits of EPO without the hematopoietic side effects (thrombosis risk, polycythemia) that limit therapeutic EPO use. ARA-290 has undergone clinical trials for painful small fiber neuropathy (SFN) in sarcoidosis patients, where it improved corneal nerve fiber density and pain scores, providing human clinical validation for its neuroprotective mechanism.

Research applications

  • Innate Repair Receptor (EPOR/CD131 heterodimer) pharmacology
  • Neuroprotection and peripheral nerve fiber regeneration studies
  • Non-hematopoietic EPO signaling and cytoprotection research
  • Small fiber neuropathy and chronic pain preclinical models
  • Anti-inflammatory mechanisms in peripheral tissue injury models
  • Receptor selectivity: IRR vs homodimeric EPOR (EPOR2) studies

Handling & storage

Supplied as a lyophilized powder. Store at 2–8 °C on receipt; protect from heat, light and moisture, and avoid excessive agitation. If reconstitution is required for laboratory work, use sterile technique — bacteriostatic water, or 0.6% acetic acid for low-solubility peptides. Protocols vary by research application.

Research use only. Research-grade, high-purity material (≥98.7% HPLC) supplied strictly for laboratory and analytical purposes. Not for human or animal consumption; not a drug or dietary supplement; not approved by the FDA, EMA or other agencies. To be handled only by qualified professionals in appropriate facilities, under all applicable laws. A certificate of analysis may be available on request.
