Semaglutide
Overview
Semaglutide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist peptide widely studied in metabolic and endocrine research. It is a synthetic analog of native glucagon-like peptide-1 with strategically placed amino acid substitutions and a C-18 fatty acid chain that enables albumin binding, dramatically extending its plasma half-life to approximately 7 days.
As an agonist at the GLP-1 receptor, semaglutide stimulates glucose-dependent insulin secretion, suppresses glucagon, slows gastric emptying, and modulates appetite signaling centers in the hypothalamus. It is approved as a pharmaceutical in multiple countries but supplied here as research-grade material for laboratory use only.
Research applications
- GLP-1 receptor pharmacology and downstream signaling
- Glucose homeostasis and insulin secretion studies
- Appetite and satiety modulation research
- Gastric emptying and gastrointestinal motility research
- Cardiovascular risk factor research in metabolic disease models
- Comparison with other GLP-1 analogs (liraglutide, dulaglutide, etc.)

Supplied as a lyophilized powder. Store at 2–8 °C on receipt; protect from heat, light and moisture, and avoid excessive agitation. If reconstitution is required for laboratory work, use sterile technique — bacteriostatic water, or 0.6% acetic acid for low-solubility peptides. Protocols vary by research application.
