Overview

Epithalon (also spelled Epitalon; tetrapeptide Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly) is a synthetic tetrapeptide derived from Epithalamin, a polypeptide extract from the bovine pineal gland, developed through research initiated by Professor Vladimir Khavinson's group at the Institute of Gerontology in St. Petersburg, Russia.

Epithalon is studied as a telomerase activator — research suggests it may upregulate telomerase (hTERT) expression, potentially lengthening critically shortened telomeres in somatic cells. Additional research has explored its effects on pineal gland function and melatonin synthesis regulation, antioxidant activity, and epigenetic modulation of gene expression in aging cells. It is one of the most widely referenced peptides in longevity and anti-aging research literature.

Research applications

  • Telomerase (hTERT) activation and telomere length modulation studies
  • Pineal gland function and melatonin synthesis regulation research
  • Epigenetic age and gene expression modulation in senescent cells
  • Oxidative stress reduction and antioxidant activity research
  • Longevity, healthspan, and cellular aging models
  • Comparison with other telomerase activators (TA-65, cycloastragenol)

Handling & storage

Supplied as a lyophilized powder. Store at 2–8 °C on receipt; protect from heat, light and moisture, and avoid excessive agitation. If reconstitution is required for laboratory work, use sterile technique — bacteriostatic water, or 0.6% acetic acid for low-solubility peptides. Protocols vary by research application.

Research use only. Research-grade, high-purity material (≥98.7% HPLC) supplied strictly for laboratory and analytical purposes. Not for human or animal consumption; not a drug or dietary supplement; not approved by the FDA, EMA or other agencies. To be handled only by qualified professionals in appropriate facilities, under all applicable laws. A certificate of analysis may be available on request.
