Cagrilintide
Overview
Cagrilintide is a long-acting amylin analog peptide under clinical investigation for metabolic research. It is designed to act on amylin receptors — heteroreceptor complexes of the calcitonin receptor (CALCR) with receptor activity-modifying proteins (RAMP1, RAMP2, RAMP3) — which are expressed in the area postrema, nucleus tractus solitarius, and hypothalamus.
By activating these receptors, cagrilintide modulates satiety, slows gastric emptying, and suppresses glucagon secretion. It is frequently studied in combination with GLP-1 receptor agonists such as semaglutide, representing a complementary dual-mechanism approach to metabolic regulation research.
